Tyson Foods Delivers Protein Donation to Food Bank of Siouxland for “World Food Day”

Siouxland Foodbank and Tyson Foods help families and communities fight hunger.
Tyson Foods will be giving back on World Food Day (10/16/19) to help provide hunger relief for many in the community. On Wednesday, October 16, at 10:00 a.m. a Tyson truck will deliver nearly 22,000 pounds of protein for hungry families in Siouxland.

World Food Day is a reminder that the ache of hunger is present for millions of people around the globe. Held annually on the 16th of October, people from around the world come together to declare their commitment to eradicate hunger. Tyson’s caring runs deep, and for nearly 20 years, they have worked to provide hunger relief in the communities where they work and live. This donation to the Food Bank of Siouxland is just one of the many ways in which Tyson works locally to fight hunger.

“Tyson Foods has been, and continues to be, a very strong partner in the fight against hunger,” said Linda Scheid, Food Bank of Siouxland Executive Director. “It is because of partners like Tyson that we are able to provide healthy and nutritious foods to our underserved populations from ailing seniors, to struggling parents, to young children.”

Tyson’s donation for World Food Day is a result of the company’s Miles that Matter program. For every mile a team member bikes, walks or runs, Tyson donates a pound of protein to their local food bank. Community running and cycling events are often designated “Triple-Mile Events,” making each mile worth three pounds of protein to further encourage participation and to ensure a robust donation.

Tyson Foods team members from the company’s Dakota Dunes, South Dakota, location who participated in this year’s Miles that Matter campaign earned 22,000 pounds of protein to be donated to the Food Bank of Siouxland. A total of 339,000 miles have been logged this year from team members at 25 Tyson Foods locations participating in Miles that Matter.

The Food Bank of Siouxland had a record-breaking distribution of over 2.6 million pounds of food last fiscal year ending 9/30/19 – 500,000 pounds was in meat distribution! Through the Food Bank’s direct service programs and through their member agencies, the Food Bank is leading the way in the fight against hunger in 11 Siouxland counties by working together with partners such as Tyson to feed the 25,380 food insecure individuals living in our communities, including 10,780 hungry children.

For more information on the Food Bank, visit www.siouxlandfoodbank.org. The Food Bank of Siouxland is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization and all donations are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law.
