How Much is Too Much Caffeine?Getting up in the morning and onto the daily grind seems easier for some people than others. I enjoy a great cup of black coffee in the morning before I start my routine. But how much is too much for the day? Caffeine boosts your energy, mood and helps you become more alert. Within 30-60 minutes the burst of energy gets you moving! What about the crash? Caffeine stays in your body up to 6 hours after you eat or drink it.
Where does caffeine hide? Caffeine is in chocolate cereal, chocolate, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, lattes, chocolate candies, and medications. There is caffeine in medicine, and sports drinks. Recently I received a free can of an energy boosting drink. It looked harmless, was full of vitamins, a little bit of sodium, zero calories, zero artificial flavors, but included 300mg of caffeine. That was the wrong thing to drink before going to bed! Too much caffeine before bedtime can make it difficult to become sleepy before bed. Moderate amounts of caffeine can cause insomnia. Caffeine is a stimulant and may cause palpitations, if your heart is beating strong too long, it could cause respiratory problems. Caffeine can cause headaches if you decide to omit your regular caffeine schedule, limiting or going without your daily dose. It is also a diuretic which means you will use the restroom more. Caffeine dehydrates the body, so you should drink 1 water per 1 caffeine each day. How much caffeine is too much? Up to 400 milligrams per day is tolerable for most healthy adults. It depends on your routine, health, medications, weight and diet. Always consult your physician about your health concerns.
